Ugadi Vedukalu 2011


The Telugu Association of Utah is pleased to welcome you all to 'Sri Khara Nama Samvatsara" Ugadi Vedukalu, a fundraiser cultural extravaganza.

We are excited to have a lineup of many wonderful performances from various members of the Telugu community, followed by a delicious Telugu dinner. For your information, here are some of the key items that are going to make the vedukalu live up to its definition:

  • Social gathering for celebrating our new year
  • 20+ volunteers to oversee the smooth execution of the event
  • 60+ participants of all ages performing songs, dances, comedy skits
  • All inclusive from classical to modern
  • Some new and unique items:
    • Door prizes* for folks arriving to the event between 4:00 and 4:45 pm
    • Best Dressed Awards - Traditional Attire
We encourage everybody to get dressed in their best Telugu traditional attire. Awards will be presented in three categories
      • Adults (20 and above): Male and Female
      • Teens (13 to 19): Male and Female 
      • Kids (12 yrs and below): Boy and Girl
  • Snacks (only if you come before 5 PM!) and of course a sumptuous dinner buffet for all
  • Dance Floor with DJ music for everyone to shake a leg and just have some fun!

Essay, Elocution, and Painting Competition for Kids

As a part of the Ugadi Vedukalu - 2011, Telugu Association of Utah is conducting the following events for kids (Ages 15 and below). Winners will be adjudged in Junior (8 years to 15 years) and Sub-Junior (8 years and below) categories. Registration is open from today to the day of the competition and walk-ins are also welcome.

Time and Venue of the event will be communicated later.

Essay Writing
 
Topic: "Traditions of Ugadi"; In this essay, the kid has to explain the different traditions in practice in the telugu families around the world. These might be traditions that are performed by everybody or could be specific to one family. 
Langauge: English 
Word Limit: Juniors Category- 250 words minimum
                    Sub-Juniors Category - 150 words
Time Duration: 45 Mins
Date: April 17th, 2011 
 
Papers will be provided for writing the essay, please bring your own writing instruments. Please be at the venue atleast 30 minutes prior to the start of the event, to finish registration and check-in. Walk-ins at the event are also welcome.
 
Elocution
 
Topic: "Ugadi Pramukhyata" 
Language: Telugu
Time Duration: 2 mins

Painting/Drawing Competition
 
Topic: "Ugadi Sambaralu"
Time Duration: 1 hour
Date: April 17th, 2011
Categories- Juniors: Water Color paintings
                 Sub-Juniors: Crayon drawings
 
Papers will be provided for the painting, please bring your own painting/drawing instruments. The kids can paint/draw with water colors, crayons, pencil etc. The area allocated to the kids should be cleaned up at the end of the evet, with the help of parents. Please be at the venue atleast 30 minutes prior to the start of the event, to finish registration and check-in. Walk-ins at the event are also welcome.

The cultural committee is seeking entries for the following, but not limited to, cultural categories:
  1. Dance: Classical/Folk/Movie/Foot-tapping
  2. Singing: Classical/Folk/Movie/Album songs
  3. Skits: Entertaining comedy/showcasing our culture and values
  4. Instrumental performances
  5. Fashion show for children and adults:  The tentative theme is "Traditional Dressing"
  6. Stand-up comedy
  7. Mimicry
  8. Or any other talent that can be done on-stage or off-stage to entertain the audiences.
